Just checking in!

So I have got good news, I got a $7383 dollar raise. That is going well apparently, I have not worked so little and yet I am "distinguishing myself" two of the investigator meetings have been cancelled.  Which is great because I am hoping that I can lose some weight and make the seats a little more comfortable. I went to a nutritionist today and she put me on a 2100 calorie diet. This time I am going to stick to it. In a few weeks I agreed to record everything I ate and then go over it with the dietician. Day one has been tough but not too bad, I have all of the tools to succeed now I really just have to put up or shut up.

Starting a General Journal, prepare for rambling

So I am starting a journal.  Lately some friends and I have been talking about improving ourselves in various ways.  One of them mentioned that writing in a journal is a good way to keep mental performance up.  I have started a lot of blogs over the years most of them last a few posts and then they gradually fade away.  I think this one will be different because this is going to be private for the most part.  I am not going to share all the posts.  I am going to create some that I share, but for the most part this will just be me writing.

I have a lot of things going on in my life, in a little over a year I am getting married.  I am starting a new "big boy" job which has been a growing experience.  I have never been able to stay organized in a proper way, with the new job in order to excel I am going to need to be able to make sure I remember to complete all the necessary tasks as well as prioritize.  When I am going through a work day I basically do things as they pop into my head which has really been terrible.  I downloaded a new program called "ToDoist" to see if I can use this to help.  This program synchs with Outlook, Iphone and Chrome which is everything I use.  So I am hoping that this will help me keep track of things.  It is $30 dollars a year but you always get the latest greatest software version because it is in the cloud and you always get the greatest updates.  I am going to spend the rest of the afternoon/evening setting this up.

I have also been working on many other goals, I want to spend more time outdoors.  Growing up I always spent a lot of time outside and I miss it.  So I bought some fishing gear, I also want to get a pair of snow shoes before winter next year.  We are still disc golfing pretty much every weekend.  My friend Skip wants us to do more hiking this year and I am hoping that I am up to it.  We are planning on going up a few mountains.

My hardest goal is going to be lose weight.  I have struggled with this for a long time and I hit the 350 mark at the Super Bowl I am hoping this is rock bottom (or and all time high).  I spoke with CJ's counselor and she mentioned that I should look into attending Over Eaters Anonymous meetings.  I haven't done that but I did download some of the podcasts they have.  When I looked at the OA website I realized that I am a compulsive eater, the podcasts were really good to listen to because they really made me realize that I am a compulsive over eater and this is a serious serious problem on par with Alcoholism or a serious drug problem.  I mean it costs lots of money hurts your productivity and will ultimately end your life earlier.  Even as I am writing this my heart rate is increased.  But I think realizing that this is the level of the issue that I am dealing with I have been able to really lower my consumption.  I also am going to try to stick to three meals a day and nothing else.  I also am going to limit myself to one sandwich or one plate of food at these meals.  I think that it will be hard to stick to but I am going to try.  If I am unable to stick to this plan the next step will be to attend the meetings which I really do not want to do.

I have also started synching my exercise and My Fitness Pal with Facebook so that I am more accountable to get out of bed in the morning and get to the gym and how much I eat.  It actually has been pretty success so far in getting this done but I will have to stick with it.  One of the things I found super helpful was to set all of the workout clothes the night before.  Waking up and having to dig through things to find the pants you are looking for is very annoying, and in order to track my workout properly I have started wearing a heart rate monitor.  My Fitness Pal has a feature that lets you set a goal for how much weight you want to lose in a given period.  Me being myself always set this for the maximum amount of weight loss.  Skip suggested setting this to lose one pound a week to give yourself some wiggle room while you are starting, as you lose weight My Fitness Pal will continue to decrease the amount of food you eat and it will slowly ween you down to a proper amount of food.  So I have made that adjustment and it has given me 2300 calories per day, combine that with the exercise and I will have plenty of calories if I want to go to the bar after work or something like that.

I have been struggling with my online class this semester.  It is a topic that I am generally interested but I have found the level of discussion in these classes to be pretty elementary.  I know that probably sounds pretty terrible but I believe it is true.  I basically missed a weeks assignment because I have been traveling so much.  I know this is a really lazy poor excuse and that is part of the reason I am working on the ToDo list so that I don't have to waste so much mental energy looking for what to do next, it will all be recorded in my app.  One of the great things about these courses is that all of the work is laid out ahead of time so there really isn't a reason that I can't get things done on time other than my own poor planning.

Last few initiatives, I am going to start doing a little bit of container gardening.  I am looking at planting some tomatoes, zucchini, and summer squash and a few buckets of herbs.  I am a little concerned that there isn't a location on our property that gets enough sunlight.  I have also decided to make it easier on myself and just buy the plants at home depot and transplant them into the buckets that I have made.  I am going to plant the herbs from seed however and I will be posting pictures of that.

As always there will be cooking posts because I just can't help myself.  I think it is good advertising when I do get my restaurant.  Should be meeting with Nick Paine sometime this week to shoot the shit, he worked for a super successful deli in Brookline and I think together we could do a pretty good job starting a deli in an office building.  This will involve a lot of work to get in the door, most of the best properties have very good deals but there is no rush and as Warren Buffet said "There are no called strikes in investing"  Also I have to go get CJ at the train and then set up ToDoist!  I am honestly excited :-)
